About Inspection and Repairs
After careful deliberation, the International Maritime Organization adopted
the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. Since lifesaving equipment must be ready for use in the event of an emergency, it is our policy to require weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance. Our customers are also
obliged to conduct evacuation drills every three months. When crew members are not familiar with our equipment and when regular inspections are not carried out, serious accidents can happen.
Therefore, after careful consideration, the IMO reformed the SOLAS Convention.
Then the IMO Maritime Safety Committee approved Guidelines for periodic servicing and maintenance of lifeboats, launching appliances and on-load release gear and Guidelines on safety during abandon ship drills using lifeboats, as set out in annexes 1 and 2, respectively, to MSC.1/Circ.1206 (MSC Circ 1206 (Rev 1) MEASURES TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS WITH LIFEBOATS).
According to MSC.1/Circ.1206, crews shall be trained by the manufacturer's representative, or, according to MSC.1/Cric1277, by personnel who have been trained in annual detailed inspection of lifesaving equipment.
